Bea Arthur, Carol Channing, Michael Feinstein, Davis Gaines, George Hearn, Angela Lansbury, Lorna Luft, Paul and Linda McCartney, Liza Minnelli, Rita Moreno, Karen Morrow, Lee Roy Reams, Leslie Uggams Pro-shot of the 1993 tribute to Jerry Herman collects numbers from the songwriter's Broadway shows, performed by a wide variety of stars, many with strong ties to Herman, including Carol Channing (the original and forever Dolly), Leslie Uggams (Jerry's Girls), George Hearn (La Cage aux Folles), Bea Arthur (with her trademark "Man in the Moon" from Mame), Lee Roy Reams and Karen Morrow (An Evening with Jerry Herman), Florence Lacey (The Grand Tour), Lorna Luft (Judy Garland's daughter), Davis Gaines, Michael Feinstein, and Rita Moreno, all backed by the Los Angeles
Philharmonic under the baton of Don Pippin (Herman's longtime musical director) before a live audience at the Hollywood Bowl. Pippin leads the orchestra in instrumental medleys of waltzes and marches, Liza Minnelli, Paul and Linda McCartney, and Angela Lansbury offered prerecorded greetings, and humorous moments are provided by Luft's grouchy "Put It Back On" response to the dance team's "Take It All Off" (the producers make it up to her later by giving her Mack & Mabel's great ballad "Time Heals Everything").There's also Reams's impressions of Channing, Pearl Bailey, and Louis Armstrong performing "Hello, Dolly"; and Arthur, who explains that Mame was not named after her character simply because nothing would rhyme with "Vera"--though "Sondheim could have done it." The guest of honor laughs right along with the crowd, and then takes the stage himself for the finale--for Jerry Herman fans, this concert is the best of times indeed A

A very cute variety show hosted by Chaz Walcott benefiting BCEFA. This show had it all: dancing, singing, Hamilton rapping, shirtless Newsies, and for all you fancies out there, two of them even kissed. The whole show is here, but the trivia portion and curtain call are audio only due to the house lights being risen for audience participation. Slightly wobbly at times and during dance numbers, near perfect audio that is synched with my Zoom H2.

Pamela Myers & Stan Freeman: Together Again For The First Time
July 1984 - New York
Pro-Shot New York Times review: “Pamela Myers, who made a memorable Broadway debut in ''Company'' singing ''Another Hundred People,'' has teamed up with Stan Freeman, the composer, conductor, pianist, writer, singer and special materials expert, in a smoothly free-wheeling act at Freddy's, through Saturday, called ''Together Again for the First Time.'' Their act is constructed to show off Mr. Freeman's musical humor, both jovial and barbed, to give Miss Myers an uninterrupted opportunity to display the impressive range and variety in her singing and to allow both of them to react and interact in a way that keeps the performance moving at a headlong pace. Miss Myers, at times, has a high- pitched, penetrating voice with suggestions of Ethel Merman, which was (and still is) her vehicle for ''Another Hundred People.'' It is not surprising, then, when she declares her admiration for Miss Merman, but this merely turns out to be a setup for a Merman song, ''Life Is Just a Bowl of Cherries,'' which she sings in un-Merman-like fashion with the brassiness turned soft and glowing. And there is further surprise when she combines her true vocal range with skillfully shaded interpretation in a demanding song from ''Nine,'' ''In a Very Unusual Way.'' Meanwhile, Mr. Freeman, singing in a cheerfully ragged voice as he dances across the piano keyboard, provides comic balance with an exploration of the innumerable ways in which ''Tea for Two'' can be related to pop songs, Mozart and musicals, and how Rodgers and Hammerstein might have mated ''Sweeney Todd'' to their score for ''The Sound of Music.'' Miss Myers and Mr. Freeman create such a skillful balance of fun and music that their current togetherness is bound to continue beyond this first time”. Filmed using one camera on a tripod. Some slight generation loss.

This show was part of a series of 10 unrehearsed shows produced and hosted by Seth which featured him asking a series of questions of his guests (other shows included Audra McDonald, Betty Buckley, Andrea Martin, Judy Kuhn, Alice Ripley, and Meghan Mullally), then running to the piano to illustrate a point, or just an excuse for the guest to sing a song. Patti had no idea what he would ask, or what she would be asked to sing. This disc was edited from 4 shows they did together and highlights the best of the best. Filmed using multiple cameras.

The video is shot from side stalls with virtually no head obstruction. The show is gorgeous visually and I have tried to capture as much of this as possible. Thus, the video is a combination of wide shots showing off the elaborate sets, well-used projections and bigger ensemble numbers, and close-ups and medium shots in dialogue scenes and solos. The complex lighting of the show itself does make for both some spotlight washout and some darker scenes, but the colors are gorgeous for the most part. Overall, it's a great video of a wonderful show.
